can you were latex gloves in place of a Anti-Static Computer Wrist Strap
ok here is the deal....l wanna install more memory in my computer and was
about to buy a Anti-Static Computer Wrist Strap to stop any static
discharge from my body from damaging the chip. but my husband thinks that
the latex cleaning gloves l wear to clean with will do the trick. l do not
think so because if you ever rubbed a ballon on your head then stuck it to
the wall with the built up static that accumilated in it......well, you
see my point. if it can prevent static then you couldnt stick it to the wall. then again l am assuming that ballons are made from the same latex material. can someone tell me if latex gloves can be used insted?
It isd toxic and very poisionus.
Since the gloves are an insulator they will stop any charge
from passig from you to the computer. However, the gloves themselves will
pick up a charge, & this scenario is probably WORSE, & more likely to cause
damage.
It is best to stick with the anti-static wrist strap, & to avoid working
on carpet (for fear of static build up from the carpet. Additionally, if the power supply on ur system has its own seperate off switch, it is best to leave the system plugged in & the power supply off. That way the system itself will remain grounded.
I dunno about the Latex gloves but you can rest your hand on
your computer case while installing the memory.

because the anti static strap is grounded to something.. as for the other
things they are not.
the rubber will stop static, but maybe they tear if u touch a bit of
solder.
